First, the compatibility of TPE and resin is better

1, the principle of similar polarity

The polar size of the plastic is: Cellulose plastic> PA> PF> EP> PVC> EVA> PS> PP, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE;

The polarity of TPE is gel> butadiene rubber> neoprene> styrene-butadiene rubber> butadiene rubber> natural rubber> ethylene propylene rubber; when used specifically, the polarity should be matched and matched, ie, the high polarity resin should be high polarity TPE, low polarity resin uses low polarity TPE.

2. The principle of proximity of solubility parameters

In the specific selection, the difference between the solubility parameters of resin and TPE is less than 0.5 to ensure its compatibility.

Second, commonly used TPE compatibilizer

Addition of compatibilizers For resins and TPEs with poor compatibility with toughening systems, appropriate compatibilizers should be added to improve the compatibility of the two. The commonly used compatibilizers are maleic anhydride or acrylic grafts of resins or toughening agents.

Third, the synergies of TPE

The addition of different types of TPEs often has a synergistic effect. For example, in the PP toughening formulation, EPDM and ABS have better toughening effect.

Fourth, the amount of TPE added

The amount of TPE added is not as good as possible. Generally, there is an optimal value. For example, when MBS is added to PVC, the amount of 15% is the maximum, and the maximum amount of TPE added to the PS is 15%.

TPE as a resin toughening material, while toughening, so that the tensile strength, bending strength and other rigid indicators decreased significantly, in order to compensate for the loss of rigidity, the need to add rigid fillers such as calcium carbonate formulations; also increase in TPE In the toughening system, rigid organic resins such as AS and PMMA are added.

6. Synergistic addition of processing aids

For toughening formulations with a large amount of TPE added, except for ACRTPE (ACP has a core-shell acrylic copolymer), the melt viscosity can be increased. For this reason, most need to add lubricants or processing aids to improve its processing performance.

VII. Size of granularity

The particle size of TPE has a great influence on the toughening effect. According to TPE toughening theory, the particle size of TPE can be relatively large for brittle resins such as PS, PP, etc., and TPE for resins with better toughness such as PVC, POM, PET, etc. The granularity can be relatively small.

Products need to be transparent, choose MBS; when products need to be flame retardant, choose CPE, when products need weathering, choose CPE, ACR, EVA, not choose MBS, ABS; when products need low cost, choose CPE, EVA, different TPE price order MBS>ACR>ABS>NBR>CPE>EVA.
